How to Install Zorin OS 15.3

If there is a Linux distribution that is making people talk about it is Zorin OS. Zorin OS is a proposal to bring Linux to people who have never used it. Therefore it is focused on the novice user that comes from macOS or Windows. And thanks to this post, you will learn how to install Zorin OS in a computer or virtual machine.

Install Zorin OS

First steps…

Unlike other Linux distributions, Zorin OS does not have the download via torrent. So the ISO image has to be downloaded if or from the project’s website.

When you do it, make a bootable USB drive and connect it to your computer. As soon as it starts, you will see the following screen:

As I said Zorin OS wants to spoil the newbie and that can be seen from the boot screen itself. Because it has several options for installation that adapts to your graphic potential. In this case, I will choose the first option that is the generic one.

Then, you will see the loading screen. Something that adds a lot of personality to the distribution.

Then, you will see the welcome screen where you can choose the system language and the installation. Also, you will be able to choose if you want to try Zorin OS or install it at once. If you try it then you can start the installer, but in this case, I will choose the option Install Zorin OS.

In the next screen, you will be able to select the keyboard layout.

Then you will see the Updates and Othe Software screen. In this section, you can install third-party software such as drivers for Wifi and Graphics cards automatically. Another thing you can do is to download Zorin OS updates in the installation. Everything is optional, however, I think it is convenient to mark these options.

Working with the disk

Then, we will have to work with the disc. And we have several options, the simplest is the first one where we can tell the installer to erase the whole disk and install Zorin OS.

But in this case, we will handle the partitions in a manual way choosing the option Something Else.

Now you will see the installer’s partitioner. I am using an empty disk for this process. So I have to make a new partition table for it. So, click on New Partition Table.

You will see the warning that tells us that the change is irreversible and that everything will be deleted.

Now, we will see that we have a Free Space available to create the main partition.

Select it and click on the + button at the bottom. Then, you will see the Create Partition window. Set a size (a little less than the total), type, location, file system, and mount point of the partition. Click Ok when you are ready.

For now, this is how the partitioning scheme looks like. The remaining white space I have left for the Swap partition. Again, click on the + button

And define that the partition will be the one dedicated to Swap.
